Cristiano Ronaldo is tough before the match against Poland. “I’m disappointed”
This Friday, Portugal will face Poland in the UEFA Nations League. A few days before the match, Cristiano Ronaldo raised an important topic from his career.
The Portuguese is a living football legend. Cristiano Ronaldo is compared with Lionel Messi as the two best football players of the 21st century. Some even claim that this term can be extended to the entire history of football. One thing is certain, next Friday CR7 will again be looking for a goal for his national team, for the second time in a short time, against the Polish team.
Cristiano Ronaldo is tough before the Portugal-Poland match
In the first match in Warsaw, coach Michał Probierz’s team lost 1:3 to Portugal. One of the hits was scored by CR7. For the 39-year-old player, it was goal number 133 for the national team.
Last Monday (i.e. November 11), Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded an award during the Quinas de Ouro gala. CR7 received the highest possible award, the Quinas de Platina trophy, for his role as an ambassador of Portuguese football in the world and for exceeding the number of 200 matches in the senior national team.
The whole ceremony was moving. CR7 did not hide that this was a very important distinction for him at this stage of his career. There were also some unique pictures, including: the legend’s speeches in front of kids who certainly want to be like their idol.
Former footballer, among others Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, he also spoke about his performances in the national team. There was also a punch in the nose for those players who, before ending their club careers, decided to resign from playing for the national team.
– After playing for many great clubs, winning trophies, receiving more than one Ballon d’Or, there is nothing better than playing for the national team. Representing an entire nation, an entire culture, your children, your mother, your father, your best friends. Once upon a time I just wanted to play in it, then I reached 25 appearances, then it was 50, 100. Then I started thinking “why not 150 or 200?” For me it’s a wonderful feeling. I am often disappointed when I see some players quickly resign from playing for the national team and do not want to represent their country – said CR7.
UEFA Nations League: The Polish national team has a chance of advancing
After four rounds, it is still not certain who will play next in the A League. The leaders of Group 1 are the Portuguese, who lost their first points only on Tuesday evening. Cristiano Ronaldo and company were stopped by the Scots, drawing with the leader goalless and thus winning… their first point in this year’s competition.
Portugal has 10 points and the lead. In second place are the Croatians, who lost (1-2) to Portugal away, but were able to beat both the Scots (2-1) and the Poles (1-0) at home. Additionally, a very important draw from Croatia’s perspective was the draw at the PGE National Stadium (3:3), which allowed them to maintain distance over the Polish national team. However, Coach Probierz’s team still has a chance to be among the two best teams in the group, which will advance them to the play-off phase, to the quarter-finals.
The Poles have four points and two more games to play. These will take place during the November international break. First, away in the above-mentioned match between the Polish team and Portugal (15/11), and then, at the end of the group games, at home against Scotland (18/11) in Warsaw.
The third place in the group, where the Poles are, means they have to play a play-off with one of the teams from League B to stay among the best in the UEFA Nations League. Fourth position means direct relegation. However, it seems that Scotland should not leapfrog Poland, although the fact is that a lot can still happen in group 1.
