The Club License Committee of the Polish Football Association (PZPN) decided to suspend Lechia Gdańsk’s license to participate in PKO BP Ekstraklasa in the 2024/2025 season. Shortly after that the news was that the club could change the owner.
The decision to suspend the license was made after the club presented a document confirming the regulation of financial arrears towards Ruch Chorzów for the transfer of Tomasz Wójtowicz.

As a result of the lack of payment on February 11, the club’s license was automatically suspended. It wasn’t until February 14 that Lechia presented a document confirming the payment, which allowed it to be suspended.

According to the information of the portal, the payment for the Chorzów movement was made thanks to the loan granted by Ekstraklasa SA, these funds came from the future liabilities of Lechia due to television rights, with the proviso that in the event of failure to pay a loan by the Ekstraklasa SA Club, he will have the right to take over these funds .
In the face of the difficult financial situation of Lechia Gdańsk, there were reports about the possible change of the club owner. Journalist Piotr Potępa from the portal Mościki.pl informed about interest from the investment group consisting of entities from the USA and Great Britain.
This group is headed by Kinga Strogoff, a businesswoman with Polish roots, which is friendly with Donald Trump, and Nlin Jay, who has extensive experience in management and acquisitions. This group has been cooperating with the Premier League and La Liga clubs for years.
