Costly renovation of Andrzej Duda's residence. The amount is causing a headache

The residence of the President of the Republic of Poland on the Hel Peninsula will be renovated – journalists from rp.pl have established. The Chancellery intends to allocate considerable money for this purpose.

The Rzeczpospolita daily has obtained public procurement from the Presidential Chancellery Service Center. The tender concerns the thermal modernization and reconstruction of the Panorama roof. The construction company will be tasked with dismantling and reconstructing the terrace, as well as placing photovoltaic panels on it. The Chancellery also wants Panorama to be equipped with a heat pump to regulate the temperature in the swimming pool.

The residence will be refreshed for a considerable amount of money

The renovation will be expensive. According to rp.pl, the presidential office plans to allocate a large amount of money for this purpose – PLN 791.7 thousand. At the moment, the lowest price offered for the modernization is PLN 1.05 million. Therefore, it is not known how much the renovation will ultimately cost – the difference between the given amounts is almost PLN 260 thousand.

But that’s not all, because another amount of money – PLN 4.6 million – is also to be allocated to the residence, although it is not known which part of it specifically. The office is silent on this matter – journalists have not received any response in this context – but from the tender documents we can learn that it may concern, among other things, the renovation of the jetties at the quay, water levels and the pier.

The building complex in Hel has two main functions

The residence serves as a representative, conference and leisure centre, among other functions. On the president’s official website, we can read that the first of the villas was renovated in 1998 – intended for the presidential couple. The second one was put into use in 1999 and is to serve guests invited by the head of state.

A few years later – in 2002 – a 35-meter-high “Panorama” was built on the grounds of the resort – we read. A year later, the modernization of the remaining buildings was completed. Over the years, the residence has been visited by the most important politicians, such as former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, 43rd President of the United States George W. Bush and Spanish politician, former Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Javier Solana.
