This was not what tourists from Japan expected. During their visit to Warsaw, they could not see the Chopin monument.

The 19th century is underway in Warsaw. edition of the Chopin Competition. Tourists from all over the world came to the capital of Poland for this great musical event that takes place only once every five years. One of the first places they wanted to visit was the Fryderyk Chopin monument in the Royal Łazienki Park. Unfortunately, what they saw was only the shape of the sculpture, which remained covered with a cloth due to renovation. Although the monument was finally unveiled, the first impression was not bad. “There was no information anywhere that it would not be possible to see it,” complained one of the Japanese tourists.

Warsaw without Chopin in Łazienki

The first visit to the Royal Łazienki Park could have been quite a disappointment for this year’s Chopin Competition listeners. All because of the ongoing renovation, which temporarily excluded the Chopin monument from available attractions. “The work has been going on for several days, and also includes the conservation of stone elements and the addition of greenery in the vicinity of the monument,” Wyborcza reported over the weekend. According to the latest information, the monument was finally unveiled, but the fence separating the attraction remained.

The renovation of the Chopin monument is scheduled to be completed only in 2026. “It was necessary to cover the monument only during the most dusty works,” reports TVN 24. The work could not take place during the holidays, because then Sunday Chopin concerts are organized in the Łazienki Park.

The tourists wanted to take a photo, but they couldn’t

Guests from all over the world who traveled thousands of kilometers to be a little closer to their favorite composer did not hide their dissatisfaction with the lack of access to the monument. “I met many foreigners who were trying to take a photo of the monument and were wondering which side it could be taken from. One of them asked me if it was possible to approach it and I had to explain that it was not,” reports a TVN 24 reporter. “Everyone has been planning this trip for several years, trying to buy tickets and book hotels at affordable prices. It’s a big deal for everyone, and we won’t see Chopin’s monument,” said the guests from Japan for Wyborcza.
