Concert performed by Polish volleyballers! Time for the premature final

Even before the start of the Poland – Türkiye match straight from the Philippines, very disturbing information related to Tomasz Fornal’s health came. One of the leaders of the Polish national team lost to an injury and the quarter -final meeting could only watch from a square for reserve as a libero.

It is difficult to say whether it is for the host of the World Cup tournament. Tomasz Swędrowski, a journalist and commentator of Polsat Sport, before the start of competition with Turkey announced that the training staff would do everything to make the volleyball player ready for Saturday semi -final.

Coach Nikola Grbić put Kamil Semeniuk instead of the Fornal in the composition. A man who became an important point of the team – actually from the first performance at the Filipino tournament. And looking even wider, much earlier, Semeniuk gave signals that he could jump into the initial composition.

Before the meeting began, in the first quarter -finals of the World Cup 2025 Italians gave a strong signal – that they are ready for big things – breaking the Belgians 3: 0. Poles apparently also wanted to go into the game for the semi -final, because the first set with Turks 25:15. Without giving any chances to be solidly presenting rivals, at least for a match with Poland. It is worth noting, however, that just like in the Polish ranks there was no Fornal, so the Turks had to cope without one of the Efe Mandiraci leaders. Turek lost with a knee injury. The difference, however, was that the Fornal was replaced by a Semeniuk, and the field of Manever of the Turkish coach – Serb Slobodana Kovacia – is definitely more limited.

And coach Grbić, having, for example, the nominal Libero Maksyialian Granieczny – as the host – took advantage of the young debutant at the World Championships, strengthening at important moments (even the second set) reception and work in the team’s security.

Turkey’s ambition was enough for a rank in the second set. Poles led, among others 4: 0 or 18:16, so that only 23:22 would get in the end. At that time, the playmaker Marcin Komenda sent Norbet Huber to the fight, who finished the important ball at 24:22. And the set a moment later ended with a result of 25:22. Huber must be appreciated, because the runner -up in the world clearly … he greeted the tournament. In previous meetings he did not present good form, but in the clash with Turkey the command and teammates could count on this middle one.

Although the Poles did not shine in the element of exactly receiving the ball, they were effective in the attack. Wilfredo Leon was the best on the Polish side. In the final account, Poland also brought to the finish line the third, winning set. Although Türkiye was quite close, including With 21:19 at the end, field events did not allow to indicate that something bad could become Poles. It ended up … 25:19 and 3: 0 in the entire meeting.

In the semi -finals, the Polish national team will play with Italy. It will thus the replay of the finals of the World Cup 2022 and the European Championships. You can definitely talk about the premature finale. This meeting will take place this Saturday (i.e. September 27).

In the medal classification of all time, looking at the world championships, Polish volleyballers are fourth. Poland reached for three gold medals (1974, 2014, 2018) and two silver rings (2006, 2022).

As you can see, apart from the memorable success of the Hubert Wagner team – later Olympic champions (1976) – they stood on the podium in the World Cup events in the 21st century. Recent years are extremely successful, since 2014 it has not happened that Poles were missing in the final of the event. In addition, it is worth noting that since the team trains under the baton of Nikola Grbcia, Poles from the most important events come back with the medal each time. Last example? The Golden League of Nations 2025, where in the final tournament in China Polish volleyballers did not lose a single set in any of the three meetings.

In addition, it is worth remembering that in the case of the Polish volleyball team, we are talking about: leaders of the FIVB world ranking, current European champions (2023), world runners -up (2022) and Olympic runners -up (2024). These are really special times for men’s volleyball in Poland. And what is also worth emphasizing, it began in total with … the 2006 World Championships. At that time, the team led by Raul Lozano decided to remind the world by climbing the party’s podium from the highest representative shelf. It was the first medal of the World Cup since Wagner.
