GUS warns against false emails to companies. Fraudsters impersonate the office, trying to extort the financial data of enterprises.

The Central Statistical Office (GUS) warns against a new type of fraud, consisting in sending false emails to Polish enterprises. The broadcasters impersonate the Central Statistical Office, informing about the alleged monitoring of financial flows between Polish and foreign entities.

“We warn against fraud – impersonating #gus and false news about the monitoring of financial flows by Polish companies between Polish companies and foreign business entities,” informs GUS in the post posted on Platform X.

Fraudsters want to extort the data

Documents sent by fraudsters are to inspire trust through a professional appearance, but they contain false information and can lead to serious consequences in the event of opening attachments or answering. The sent false message indicates, among others Date of sending the report: until 13.06.2025. ”

– The document contains the CSO logo, office data and a fake signature of the President of the CSO and a false correspondence address – emphasizes in the official announcement of the Central Statistical Office.

GUS strongly denies: we are not sending these emails

The institution strongly denies that it is currently conducting this type of study.

– We would like to inform you that the office does not currently conduct such a study. The acquisition of data under the CSO research takes place via the reporting portal or via statistical interviewers. The study is not carried out at such short dates that are given in a false document – we read in a statement.

CSO calls for caution

The Central Statistical Office appeals to all business entities for special caution and not interacted with suspicious messages.

– Please do not respond to this correspondence and do not open the attached file – noted in the announcement. The case was reported to relevant services that began explaining actions.

Entrepreneurs should always verify the source of the received messages, especially when they concern the transfer of sensitive data. In case of doubt, direct contact with the Central Statistical Office or visiting its official website is recommended.
