The holiday season is in full swing. This is the time when we often take gifts with us when traveling. When boarding a plane, it is worth remembering a few details. This will help us avoid problems.

There’s nothing strange about packing Christmas gifts in your luggage. However, you must remember that certain rules apply. The situation is completely different when we get on a bus or train than when we board a plane. As always, you need to be more careful.

Gifts in hand luggage

For example, when packing Christmas gifts into hand luggage, we must remember not only about the limits, but also about prohibited delicacies and problematic gadgets. In the Christmas rush, it is easier to forget, but the inspection staff will not allow us to transport excess liquids just because we pack them as a gift. This is especially important when we want to give someone cosmetics – including perfumes or creams.

We also have to be careful, among other things: for popular snowballs filled with water. On the other hand, if we have a lighter as a gift for someone, it should not be wrapped, but taken as a handy personal item in a clothing pocket. Gift alcohol taken as hand luggage can be purchased in the duty free zone.

If we want to take packed vases, candlesticks, figurines or cups, it would be better if they were rounded and without sharp edges. We can easily transport, among others: baubles, Christmas lights and candles.

When it comes to packing items with decorative paper, it is not prohibited. However, there is a risk that it will be broken during the inspection. If possible, it is better to leave the decoration until after arrival.

It’s better to pack differently

Some gifts are better packed in a large suitcase checked in as checked baggage. It is also worth remembering that since InPost introduced international services, you can easily send gifts to a parcel locker and pick them up in a given country after arrival.

It is better to put, among others, in a large suitcase: delicacies such as pickled herring, cabbage with mushrooms, honey, jam or chocolate in a jar. Unless the capacity of each of them does not exceed 100 ml and will be placed in a traditional transparent cosmetic container. It is also worth returning cool party poppers and candy tubes, i.e. Christmas crackers, to the hatch. Some airlines, such as Ryanair, completely prohibit their transport. You should also watch out for mistletoe or berries available on Christmas wreaths. Some live Christmas trees can also be problematic. In their case, please read the detailed regulations of the selected carrier.

Experts often advise that for security reasons, you should not take expensive watches, collectible figurines or important souvenirs in your checked luggage, because if they are lost, you will probably lose them forever. It is better to take valuables on board the plane, in small hand luggage, to keep an eye on them.
