Christmas Eve off from work? This is how Poles evaluate the idea of the Left. The latest survey
74 percent respondents support the idea pushed by the Left regarding Christmas Eve free from work – according to the latest survey conducted for “Wprost” by SW Research. We present detailed results of the study.
– Christmas Eve without work is a long-awaited change. It’s high time to implement it. The Left parliamentary club submitted a parliamentary bill on a free Christmas Eve, said Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk. The Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy emphasized that if this solution came into force, it would be a positive change for nearly 12 million Poles.
Christmas Eve off from work? The idea of the Left with the approval of President Andrzej Duda
The idea pushed by the Left caused many comments, and was commented on, among others, by: Andrzej Duda. The president was asked what he would do if the bill with the above-mentioned assumption reached his desk. Andrzej Duda drew attention to the enormous preparations for Christmas and said that “it would be good if Christmas Eve was a day off from work.” – I believe that people also deserve something and it is not the case that they have to work from dawn to dusk every day – the president said on Radio Zet.
– Especially since, let’s be honest, in most cases it’s a half-baked job, pardon the expression. People leave work because they know they have to get things done. So this is a day that is actually a very moderately worked day. Of course, there are professions that have to work hard (change – ed.) and that is clear, and that’s just the way it is. However, in most cases, people approach it with a pinch of salt – concluded Andrzej Duda.
Critics of the idea point to the possible losses that the economy would suffer if another day off was added to the calendar. “Each additional day off costs the economy PLN 6 billion. If Christmas Eve were to be a day off, it would be at the expense of another holiday in the year, so that the number of days off – of which we have 13 – does not change,” wrote Ryszard Petru from the Poland 2050 – Third Road Parliamentary Club on the X website (formerly Twitter – ed.).
As the MP added, if new days off are considered, they should concern great events in the history of Poland. “June 4 could be such a day off from work. It should replace the day off on May 1 or January 6,” said Ryszard Petru.
