China overtook Poland. It’s about a key industry

For the first time China, not Poland, were the largest supplier of large household appliances to EU markets – writes Rzeczpospolita. The production of equipment has gone back in our country in terms of quantity by several years.
According to Eurostat data, the newspaper cites that last year large household appliances for 4.3 billion euros came to the European Union. It is up to EUR 1 billion more than a year ago. China increased sales to EU markets by as much as 32 percent, while Poland only by 3 percent, when selling worth EUR 3.7 billion. For the first time China, not our country, were the largest supplier of household appliances to EU countries.
Polish household appliances defeated by the Chinese
The newspaper points out that until now we could see the main threat in Turkey, which systematically increases export to Europe. China was unlikely to talk about China in this context, especially after the pandemic increase in supply costs from Asia and problems with the availability of components, which showed many companies the validity of the investment strategy in Europe. However, this changed quickly, because China quickly rebuilt their position.
– Imports from China are growing because in Europe the increase in production costs, caused mainly by green order, is so high that profitability decreases. As a result, manufacturers close the factories – comments Marcin Majchrzak, CEO of Haier in the region, quoted by Dziennik Marcin Majchrzak.
In his opinion, this trend will proceed because “only the EU imposes tax on its goods in the name of pro -environmental activities.”
European companies indicate that the growing import from China is the result of, among others government preference programs for companies. For example, it is about the policy of supporting the Chinese export authorities, which means competitive transport costs.
The production has gone back a few years
The newspaper notes that the production of household appliances in Poland “has gone back in terms of a few years”. Although last year it increased by 2 % to 23.4 million, it is still much below peak possibilities. In 2021, production exceeded the level of 30 million pieces. In recent years, employment in the household appliances in Poland has also decreased. Sales of large home appliances has also decreased.
