China Arms Russia? Beijing Denies, Washington Responds
According to Reuters, Russia is developing a secret project in China to produce long-range combat drones. The project, carried out by Russian arms company Kupol, aims to produce Garpiya-3 (G3) drones, which have already been tested on Chinese training grounds.
John Kirby, spokesman for the US National Security Council, expressed deep concern about the new information. According to these reports, China supported the project, providing experts and technology. Kirby said that the United States expects China to guarantee that its companies do not supply Russia with weapons.

He added that if the reports are confirmed, immediate action could be taken against Chinese companies involved in supplying lethal technologies. However, the White House has no official information on the production of Russian drones in China.
According to documents obtained by Reuters, Kupol has already received its first drones from Chinese suppliers. There are seven of them in total, two of which are G3 models. However, this is hard to prove, as the invoices for the orders do not indicate exact dates or suppliers.
Defense expert Fabian Hinz of the International Institute for Strategic Studies noted that China’s actions could constitute a new dimension of cooperation with Russia. Until now, China has supplied the Russians with so-called dual-use components, meaning those that could be used in both civilian products and weapons systems.
“We have not seen, at least in open sources, documented transfers of entire weapons systems,” Hinz added in an interview with Reuters.
China’s reaction
China’s Foreign Ministry has rejected the accusations, saying Beijing controls drone exports and remains neutral in the Ukraine conflict. China has also criticized the “double standards” of other countries that supply Ukraine with weapons, saying such actions escalate the conflict.
At the same time, in early September, China stressed that there were no international restrictions on trade with Russia, which suggests that Beijing does not intend to change its stance on trade relations with Moscow.
Potential consequences
If the reports of Sino-Russian cooperation are confirmed, it could lead to serious diplomatic and economic repercussions. The United States and other countries could impose sanctions on Chinese entities involved in supplying military technology to Russia. The situation could also affect broader relations between China and the West, which increases tensions in the international arena.
Putin’s secret project in China sheds new light on China’s role in the Ukraine conflict and its involvement in supplying Russia with military technology, which could significantly change the dynamics of the war in Ukraine.
