Privately, a doctor will still be able to earn as much as he wants, but in the public health service there will be a glass ceiling – sixteen times the minimum wage.
The scandal at the Southern Hospital and the millions of earnings of the emergency department coordinator – a doctor without specialization but already working in several places – started a discussion about the gigantic earnings of doctors in state facilities. Many of them are very in debt.
– These differences are too big to continue – Prime Minister Donald Tusk began, announcing the ceiling above which a doctor will no longer earn money in the public health service. He gave the amount of PLN 76.8 thousand. PLN per month, i.e. sixteen times the minimum wage. The maximum hourly rate would reach PLN 250. “There is no poverty,” said the head of government.

The Prime Minister argued that the proposed restriction was not drastic. – It’s not about doctors earning poorly. On the contrary, this proposal means that doctors in Poland will still be significantly above the European average when it comes to earning opportunities. There really won’t be any harm, the Prime Minister justified.
You will be entitled to the maximum remuneration after working the equivalent of two full-time positions. In this way, the government also wants to precisely define the permissible working hours of doctors. – It’s about patient safety and it’s about eliminating the possibility of abuse – there were cases of people working more hours than allowed in a day – explained the Prime Minister.
The way in which medical contracts are constructed will soon change. The government wants to move away from remuneration calculated as a percentage of the value of the medical procedure performed. – Treatment is not simply a brutal business. And it was precisely this calculation of percentage of the procedure, and some procedures are very expensive, that led to situations that aroused justified emotions. These are multi-thousand-dollar rates per hour. This must end, explained the Prime Minister.
– These multi-thousand-dollar wages per hour must end and thanks to these solutions they should end – he emphasized.
Transparency of the contract. Greater control from the National Health Fund
Donald Tusk also announced full transparency of contracts concluded by medical facilities financed from public money. – Doctors, nurses, all medical professions deserve the highest respect and it would be bad if an atmosphere of ambiguity, and sometimes even scandal, was growing around the earnings of at least some groups or some specific doctors, explained Prime Minister Tusk.
The Ministry of Health is also to use data related to the PESEL number to determine the total earnings of doctors working in several places. The government also plans to expand the control functions of the National Health Fund.
The new laws will most likely be debated in the Sejm in September. – We will not give anyone any excuses to block these bills – added the Prime Minister.
The prime minister and president will earn more in 2027. But not as much as doctors
The minimum wage is the one that sets the minimum legal payout in a given year. Its aim is to prevent a situation in which employees receive remuneration lower than the market value of their work. About 3 million hard-working Poles know exactly how much it will be in 2026 – it is PLN 4,806 gross, i.e., depending on the contract, about PLN 3,606 “on hand”.
From January 1, many Poles will probably receive PLN 4,950 gross in their accounts – PLN 3,704 “on hand”. This is only about PLN 144 more per month than currently. For comparison, an hour of a doctor’s work will cost PLN 250.
We know how much the president and prime minister will earn next year. In 2027, the president’s salary will increase by approximately PLN 813 per month to PLN 27.9 thousand. PLN gross. He will get about 10 thousand. PLN more per year. The Prime Minister will earn approximately PLN 22,800 in 2027. PLN, which means an increase of approximately PLN 666 – PLN 8,000. PLN more per year.
