Chaos during the Poland-Albania match. The Border Guard denies the allegations
During the Poland-Albania match, the Polish anthem was almost inaudible at the PGE National Stadium. The Border Guard responds to allegations from fans.
On Thursday evening, March 26, the eyes of all Polish football were focused on PGE Narodowy in Warsaw, where Jan Urban’s team fought with Albania to advance to the final of the 2026 World Cup play-offs.
Poland – Albania. Scandal at PGE Narodowy
As it turned out, an unpleasant incident occurred just before the first whistle. During our rivals’ anthem, stars and boos could be heard from the stands. It didn’t take long for the Albanian fans to react. When the first lines of “Mazurek Dąbrowskiego” were heard in the stadium, the Albanians also tried to drown it out.
Poland – Albania. Storm over the Polish anthem
There was also another problem with the Polish anthem – the audience gathered at the PGE National Stadium complained that they could hear almost nothing. As a result, some people sang the verse, others the chorus, and others still whistled, thinking that it was still the Albanian anthem.
The blame for the situation fell on both the organizers and the Border Guard Representative Orchestra, because it was this band that played the anthem before the Poland-Albania match.
The Border Guard spokeswoman admitted that the effect was supposed to be completely different. – It is difficult for us to comment because we were only guests, it was not the Border Guard that organized the match. The orchestra played as beautifully as it could, entered impressively, and the skill of its members was visible from the very beginning – she explained in an interview with Interia.
Anna Sobieska-Tekień emphasized that “it was not the Border Guard that was responsible for the sound system at PGE Narodowy.” – We had the setting on our side and we were invited to cooperate in this respect. We did our job to the best of our ability, and technical issues were not our responsibility, she noted.
The representative of the Border Guard admitted that the situation during the rehearsal was completely different from that during the match. – The presence of fans completely changed the conditions. The audience had no sound system, so they couldn’t hear our orchestra. I also missed it, but as I already said, the issue of publicity was the responsibility of the organizer – she added.
