Changes in the State Forests. There is a new director

On Tuesday, August 5, Adam Wasiak was appointed to the new General Director of the State Forests. He replaced Witold Koss in this position, whose day before was canceled by the Minister of the Environment and climate Paulina Henninh-Kloska.

New General Director of the State Forests

“Appreciating the achievements and professional experience, I appointed Adam Wasiak as the general director of the State Forests,” the head of the ministry announced in social media.

Henning-Kloska added that the State Forests “manage the unique natural heritage of Poland, which requires special care and supervision, all the more in the era of climate change and more and more difficult challenges that are facing us.”

Who is Adam Wasiak?

The announcement on the Ministry’s website emphasized that the new head of the State Forests graduated from the Faculty of Forestry of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences and Humanities in Warsaw as well as post -graduate studies at the University of Warsaw and an MBA course at the Leon Koźmiński Academy in Warsaw. He also has a diploma of the Polish Institute of International Affairs.

Adam Wasiak was the general director of the State Forests in the years 2012–2015, in 2017-2024 he was the deputy director of the Forest Office and Forest Geodesy. From 2024 he was the director of the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Radom.

Wasiak is also the head of the Wetlands Green Life project, the Life EU initiative, which aims to renew and protect wetlands, peat bogs and swamps in Poland.

Appeal of Witold Koss

Witold Koss was dismissed from the position of general director, to whom Henning-Kloska personally thanked for her work so far. The official took this function on January 10, 2024, replacing Józef Kubica. In the period from 2008 to 2015, Witold Koss was the director of the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Szczecin. The minister did not provide the reason for the exchange of the head of the State Forests.
