Changes in Poles’ favorite country. It’s about accommodation

Tourists who are planning a holiday on the Adriatic this year should remember about a number of changes introduced by Croatia in connection with booking accommodation. New regulations apply to owners of holiday apartments intended for short-term rental (for example via the Booking and Airbnb platforms). For guests, this means a smaller selection of offers, but also a lower risk of fraud. Many previously unregistered facilities may simply disappear from the market.

Important changes in Croatia

From June 1, 2026, a new legislative package reorganizing the holiday apartment market in Croatia is in force. For entrepreneurs, it means the need to obtain a special registration number, without which the accommodation facility will not be visible on booking platforms such as Booking or Airbnb. “Although the new regulations should provide guests with a higher level of safety, it can be expected that there will be fewer offers on the market, at least temporarily. Owners who do not meet the registration requirements may cease their operations,” we read in the Croatian media. A similar revolution had previously taken place in Spain.

Tighter controls are necessary

Of course, this involves more stringent controls. However, they will not only concern accommodation policy, but also limiting alcohol consumption in entertainment zones in seaside resorts, which are under siege during the season. Croatia has introduced, among others: ban on the sale of energy drinks to people under 18 years of age and in the future also intends to use the possibility of introducing a ban on the sale of spirits in selected zones. “Croatia thus wants to move away from the uncontrolled increase in the number of tourists towards higher quality and sustainable development in tourism,” we read.
