Change in housing policy. The coalition says “stop” to payments

PSL ends with subsidies for mortgage loans. In return, he wants to support social construction and transfer funds to local governments.
Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced a change in the PSL course in housing policy. In an interview with Money.pl, he said that in his opinion it was time to end the program of subsidies for mortgage. The deputy prime minister noted that the party is in favor of supporting social construction and the transfer of funds to local governments so that they could implement housing investments.
Change of approach
The declaration of the PSL leader means a departure from the current position of this party and approaching the proposals that the left has long made. It is also a confirmation of the changing approach of the entire coalition ruling to the topic of subsidies that have raised controversy.
Szymon Hołownia, Szymon Hołownia, also referred to the issue of subsidies for mortgage loans. In the context of the possible reconstruction of the government, he indicated five key demands for his grouping. Among them was immediate unlocking of funds for cheap apartments and resignation from planned subsidies.
Poland 2050 and the left for a long time criticized credit support programs, arguing that instead of helping citizens, they artificially drive real estate prices, bringing profits to banks and developers. The Minister of Funds, Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, also repeatedly expressed skepticism towards such solutions.
On Wednesday, on the X platform, Minister Pełczyńska-Nałęcz reminded that in February the budget for social construction was increased by PLN 1 billion. However, she pointed out that these funds are still blocked. He blamed Minister Krzysztof Paszyk for lack of progress.
Break down
The ruling coalition is counting on the fact that Kosiniak-Kamysz’s declaration will help break the impasse. Giving up subsidies can open the way to solutions that have wider support among coalition partners.
It is worth recalling that subsidies for mortgage loans are not a new idea. In previous years, there was the “Safe Credit 2 % Credit” program Introduced by PiS. Currently, the government was considering the “Credit for Start” and “first keys” projects, which also assumed subsidies from the budget. However, the common position of the coalition may mean the end of such initiatives.
