Champions League for Warsaw! PGE Projekt humiliated its opponent at the finish

Confidently and smoothly, PGE Projekt Warszawa defeated Asseco Resovia Rzeszów 3-0 in the last match of the fight for 3rd place in PlusLiga. It was an extremely one-sided fight.

Exceptionally, because one could get the impression that if Asseco Resovia Rzeszów managed to get out of trouble and from 0:2 in sets in the match in Warsaw, to the final 3:2, why wouldn’t it win at home?

Why – the PGE Projekt volleyball players showed on Wednesday late afternoon. Podpromie Hall, or more precisely the fans gathered there, could only applaud the solid play of the visitors. The win in three sets left no doubt who was the better team in the direct competition for the PlusLiga bronze medals.

PlusLiga: PGE Projekt Warszawa bronze medalist. There is a ticket to the Champions League!

Guest coach Kamil Nalepka decided to leave Aleksander Śliwka in the starting lineup. A man who appeared in the colors of PGE Projekt just a few days ago and supported the team almost immediately. On the one hand, it is a medical transfer for the injured Bartosz Bednorz – and on the other, experts on the subject clearly indicate that the new captain of the Polish national team will remain in Warsaw for longer. And PGE Projekt has gained a very valuable reinforcement.

Śliwka replaced Bartosz Firszt in the lineup. There was no change in the composition of the Warsaw team after the defeat from 2:0 to 2:3. Coach Nalepka chose proven people, and they rewarded him with success.

On the Rzeszów side, however, it is difficult to be optimistic. Coach Massimo Botti tried to find a new, somewhat surprising solution for the second victory in a row over PGE Projekt. From the very beginning, the following people appeared on the pitch: attacker Jakub Bucki (MVP of the match in Warsaw) and receiver Lukas Vasina. It must be admitted, however, that apart from small fragments of the match, the visitors’ victory was practically unthreatened. Asseco Resovia faced an almost flawless opponent (especially the first two sets were impressive) and due to their uneven form, they did not manage to reach the competitive level.

Kevin Tillie, the French host of PGE Projekt, was chosen MVP of the match.

Interestingly, the bronze medal won by PGE Projekt is the third such medal in a row. The series of third places started in Warsaw in the 2023/24 season. In total, in the history of the club, this is the fourth such disc in the collection (2021, 2024, 2025 and 2026). The runner-up finish in the Polish Championship in the 2018/19 season can also be added to this list.

It is important that PGE Projekt, by winning 3rd place in PlusLiga, guaranteed its participation in the next edition of the Champions League. The inhabitants of Warsaw will also count in the game for the current Champions League – in mid-May (16-17/05) they will take part in the Final Four tournament. However, the challenge in the semi-finals will be the most difficult one possible. PGE Projekt’s opponent will be the defending champion, the Italian Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia.
