Although in recent years there has been a lot of bad news in the media about Celine Dion’s health, the singer is finally feeling better. For this reason, she decided to sing at the official opening of the Olympic Games in Paris. Her performance delighted the audience.

Celine Dion at the opening of the games

On Friday evening, July 26, the 33rd modern Olympic Games were inaugurated in Paris. It was a unique event, which for the first time in history did not take place in a stadium. The French decided to show the most beautiful and characteristic places in their capital, while also inviting famous stars to participate in the opening. One of them was Celine Dion.

It has been known for many months that the singer is struggling with a deadly disease – Moersch-Woltmann syndrome, or rigidity syndrome. This neurological condition causes her to experience uncontrolled muscle spasms throughout her body and sometimes she cannot even utter a sound. Despite this, the Canadian singer managed to perform.

While earlier media reports claimed that Celine Dion would appear on stage for a duet with Lady Gaga, that did not happen. The “Poker Face” hitmaker sang closer to the beginning of the inauguration, while the 56-year-old closed the ceremony. The legendary singer finally performed Edith Piaf’s song “L’Hymne à l’amour”, and her powerful voice made a huge impression. At first glance, it was obvious that she was very emotional, because at the end of her performance she was extremely moved. She was supposed to get 2 million dollars for singing this song.

It is worth adding that this is her first public appearance in years. Celine Dion gave her last concert in 2019 in London. The singer did not talk about her health for a long time. It was not until 2022 that she spoke about the disease for the first time.
