CBA agents appeared at the Polsat headquarters. They demanded the release of documents in connection with an important investigation.

On Thursday, November 7 Central Anticorruption Bureau agencies entered the Polsat headquarters. They demanded the release of important documents. The action of the services is related to “proceedings concerning activities to the detriment of Telewizja Polska by those who were supposed to take care of its property matters and concluded an unfavorable contract with Telewizja Polsat for sports broadcasts.”

Polsat under the scrutiny of the CBA. What is the investigation about?

It’s about sale of sublicenses for broadcasting matches of the Polish national football team during the PiS government. The prosecutor’s office especially wants to take a closer look at two contracts concluded between public television and Polsat. One of them was concluded in 2018, and the other exactly three years later.

Public television granted Zygmunt Solorz’s station a sublicense to show the meetings the football Champions League or the Polish volleyball team, to which the rights had previously been acquired. Thanks to this, Polsat could broadcast at the same time as TVP. According to unofficial findings, public media could have lost up to PLN 360 million this way.

Polsat under the scrutiny of the CBA

A spokesman for the Ministry of Interior and Administration confirmed that the officers Central Anticorruption Bureau carried out activities at the television headquarters Polsat in Warsaw. Jacek Dobrzyński added that the case is supervised by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Krosno.

A spokeswoman for this institution said that the investigation is currently at its initial stage. – As part of the investigation, activities are being carried out to secure documentation related to potential abuse of property – explained Marta Kolendowska-Matejczuk.

Polsat spokesman Tomasz Matwiejczuk has so far declined to comment regarding the activities of the CBA and the investigation conducted by the prosecutor’s office.
