Carrefour introduces bottle vending machines. Initially, only in one city

Carrefour Polska is already introducing bottle vending machines in preparation for the new deposit-refund system, which will come into force on January 1, 2025.
Carrefour Polska has decided to implement innovative bottle vending machines. For starters – in its Warsaw branches. As part of preparations for the upcoming deposit system, which will come into force on January 1, 2025, the chain has begun installing devices called “PETfur”.

“PETfur” bottle machines will be available in both large hypermarkets and smaller chain stores, such as supermarkets and local stores. These devices are designed to make it easier for customers to return three types of waste that will be covered by the new deposit system.
As one of the largest retail chains in Poland, Carrefour must adapt to statutory requirements. The company is required to collect beverage packaging, charge and pay deposits, and collect a specified amount of packaging from customers.
Carrefour Polska is playing a key role in preparing for the implementation of the deposit system. In December 2020, the chain began manually collecting returnable glass bottles in its stores in Warsaw. Since then, Carrefour has collected over 45 million such bottles, which is twice as much as the number of packages of this type sold during that period.
Carrefour Polska is a retail chain with over 900 stores throughout the country. The company also manages a network of over 20 shopping centers with a total area exceeding 230,000 GLA (net tenant area) and about 40 petrol stations.
The installation of bottle vending machines by Carrefour Polska is a step towards sustainable development and effective waste management. Thanks to this, customers will have easier access to places where they can return beverage packaging, thus supporting recycling and environmental protection.
