On the night of August 20-21, the 36-year-old Yankee was attacked by several men. A 36-year-old Hutnik Kraków fan was beaten so severely that he died from his injuries. The police quickly detained 9 people, but all of them were questioned as witnesses and released without charges.

The police are looking for a total of 5 men, two people were to be arrested on Monday, August 24 in the evening. Onet reports unofficially that the initial cause of death was choking with stomach contents. In such a case, experts will have to specify whether the Yank vomited as a result of the beating, the rescue operation, or perhaps alcohol or other psychoactive substances.
It is known for certain that the Yankee orphaned a several-year-old daughter and was known in Krakow as a person associated with Hutnik’s hooligans. His record tells us a lot about the man’s past. He had convictions for burglary, robbery, theft in Croatia, insulting a policeman and drug offenses. He was awaiting trial in a case involving the purchase of cocaine and distribution of the drug to retail recipients.
Why did the Yankee die? The police do not yet know the perpetrators’ motive
Onet’s interlocutors from Krakow’s law enforcement agencies do not yet know why the Yank was attacked. They are not convinced by the claims of retaliation for the alleged attack on Wisła fans. — Such statements do not really fit the realities of Krakow. Hutnik’s pseudo-fans, unlike the fans of Wisła and Cracovia, did not travel around the city and look for random victims to beat someone just because they support another local team – said the portal’s informant.
— That’s why we take into account that “Yankes” died, in a sense, by accident, because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is known who he was, it is known that he supported Hutnik and he could have fallen victim to an ambush, a kind of hunting in the city by the “Young Gang” – added the expert on the subject.
– About 70 percent They carried out their attacks precisely because of this motivation, on the principle of hunting someone. God forbid that we would return to the era of such ambushes, because these cases are not easy to detect, and in addition, sometimes complete bystanders also suffered in such attacks – said Onet’s interlocutors.
If it turned out that the Yanks were actually attacked by the “Young Gang”, a gang of Wisła hooligans, the motive would automatically come to mind. It would be about the desire to gain fame and influence in the city. – They have no clear leader, they are a strange entity, they are trying to rise and exist as a group, especially after we destroyed the “Sharks”, the previous group of Wisła hooligans – explained the policeman.
Expert on Yankee’s death. He has two theories
Prof. Rafał Chwedoruk, University of Warsaw, studies the fan movement in Poland. The political scientist considers only two solutions to the mystery of Yankee’s death. Either they were gangster squabbles over drugs, or hooligans fought for influence in Krakow.
— This specific situation of Wisła fans, i.e. their alienation on a nationwide scale, accusing them of lack of honor and the previous dismantling of the “Sharks” group with the famous “Miśek” by the police, are now conducive to the search for a new identity by those present. This also affects their radicalization and the desire to gain a position in the hooligan environment, which may have resulted in the recent attack on the “Yankes” hooligan, he said.
According to unofficial information from Radio Eska, three people who may have been involved in the fatal beating of the Yank fled abroad. The station claims that these are people selected by the Małopolska police. The men were to escape to southern Europe. The police captured the remaining two of the five suspects. One of them is said to be a minor. – They are waiting for interrogation. The activities are still ongoing, Anna Zbroja Zagórska from the Małopolska police told Radio ESKA.
