In Southeast Asian countries, Smart City systems are implemented without consistent regulations and often devoid of mechanisms ensuring transparency and the consent of users.

Thanks to the GDPR, data processing, especially biometric, requires clear consents, minimizing information collection and secure storage. Consequently, many solutions, e.g. facial recognition, are available only as an option and requires a clear acceptance of the user. Building owners more often reach for access systems without biometrics or based on smartphones. Although this limits the rate of implementation, it ensures a balance between convenience, modernity and respect for user privacy.

Poland is a leader in innovation in accordance with European standards

However, Europe is struggling with barriers in the form of high investment costs, fears related to cyber security and the requirements of compliance with the GDPR, making it slower than Asia. Will he make up a distance?
