Błaszczak vs. General Piotrowski. A motion to lift the politician’s immunity has been submitted to the Sejm

A motion to waive the immunity of former Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak was submitted to the Sejm. It was submitted by General Tomasz Piotrowski’s lawyer.
According to information obtained by Wirtualna Polska, the reason for filing a motion to lift Mariusz Błaszczak’s immunity is the charge of public insult. According to Article 212 of the Penal Code, it is subject to a fine or a penalty of restriction of liberty.
As both Wirtualna Polska and Interia confirmed, the application to the Parliamentary Committee on Rules, Deputies’ Affairs and Immunities was submitted on June 18. Now it is to be processed and the commission is to issue an opinion on it.
Gen. Tomasz Piotrowski’s attorney states in the motion that the former Minister of National Defense “slandered the commander for conduct that exposed him to the loss of trust necessary for the position of Operational Commander of the Armed Forces”, and the statements of Mariusz Błaszczak themselves “humiliated the general in public opinion.”
The case of the rocket from Bydgoszcz returns
The case dates back to April last year, when a Russian rocket was found by a random person in a forest near Bydgoszcz. The missile was to enter the airspace in December 2022 and remain untargeted during that time.
Mariusz Błaszczak then blamed Gen. Tomasz Piotrowski, publicly accusing him of failing to fulfill his duties and not informing him about the situation in time. – The procedures and mechanisms for responding in such a situation worked properly up to the level of the Operational Commander, who did not fulfill his duties properly – said the former head of the Ministry of National Defense.
In a statement published a day later, Gen. Tomasz Piotrowski appealed for common sense and weighing emotions so as “not to give fodder to an ambitious and aggressive opponent.” However, there was no explanation of what the case looked like from his perspective.
Former Minister of National Defense does not change his mind
Mariusz Błaszczak maintains that the truth is on his side. – I have spoken on this subject many times. If we refer to documents, I think that the report of the Supreme Audit Office is very interesting, as we know who is in charge. And this report is an objective report, it presents the case as it happened. I can say it straight: it’s beneficial for me – he argued in an interview with Wirtualna Polska.
