Bill Gates warns against the use of AI by people with malicious intentions. In his opinion, international regulations and safeguards are necessary.

Bill Gates believes that creating international rules on artificial intelligence may prove more difficult than nuclear negotiations conducted during the Cold War. However, the Microsoft founder argues that countries should take such actions.

In an interview with NBC News, Gates pointed out that when it comes to threats related to artificial intelligence, it is not enough to simply cut off the power. According to ABC News, he also appealed for the United States to become the initiator of regulations regarding the development of AI agreed at the international level.

Risks related to AI. Gates points to people with bad intentions

According to Gates, it is necessary to implement security mechanisms to reduce the risk of events that could lead to numerous victims. He considered the most dangerous problem to be the use of artificial intelligence by people acting with malicious intentions.

He pointed out that small groups using AI can now achieve opportunities that were previously available only to large countries. For this reason, according to Gates, governments should strive to create appropriate safeguards.

Warning against cyberattacks and bioattacks

The founder of Microsoft pointed to the risk of serious incidents. In his opinion, the question comes down to whether security measures will be in place before or only after large-scale cyber or bio-attacks occur.

AI security concerns aren’t unique to Gates. As NBC News reminds, companies competing in the artificial intelligence market – OpenAI, Anthropic and Google – have started cooperation on security issues. They are also seeking the creation of a body, preferably at the international level, that would oversee threats related to artificial intelligence.

Donald Trump does not want to slow down the development of AI

Donald Trump presents a different position. According to the material, the US president consistently declares in speeches and on social media that he will not allow the development of artificial intelligence, which he describes as superintelligence, to be regulated or slowed down.

The New York Times reported, citing people who talked privately with Trump, that his reactions to attempts to control the development of AI are due to concerns about the economic effects of slowing down this sector. According to these interlocutors, the president is afraid that stopping the AI boom could lead to a market collapse and then a recession. However, this is an interpretation of the reasons for Trump’s position attributed to the newspaper’s interlocutors, and not a declaration by the president himself.
