CERT Orange Polska warns customers against another phishing campaign. Cybercriminals impersonate Orange by sending fake text messages and e-mails. Find out how to recognize fraud and protect your data.

A new wave of fraud – this time targeting Orange customers

Specialists from CERT Orange Polska informed about an ongoing phishing campaign targeting users of telecommunications services. Fraudsters impersonate Orange Polska, sending fake SMS messages and e-mails. The content contains information about the need to “activate your account” and a link leading to a page resembling a login panel.

Although the website contains the Orange Polska logo, it is actually a fake website created by fraudsters. Logging in allows cybercriminals to access personal data and potentially take control of victims’ bank accounts.

What does fraud look like?

Example content of a fake message:
“Your Orange account is waiting for activation. Follow the instructions to activate it and use our services again. Thank you!”

What draws attention is the careless language of the message – spelling and punctuation errors are one of the first clues that we are dealing with a scam. Another warning sign is the unusual address of the website to which the attached link leads.

Experts emphasize: never log in via links sent via SMS or email, even if they look authentic.

How to protect yourself?

CERT Orange Polska reminds you that there is no need to “activate” or “verify” your account via the links sent in messages. All important information about services can be checked in the official My Orange application or directly on the operator’s website.

Expert recommendations:

  • Only use the My Orange application to manage your account.

  • Ignore messages that seem suspicious or contain linguistic errors.

  • Do not click on links sent by text or email without carefully checking their source.

  • Update your software regularly and use antivirus programs.

Phishing – still a popular method of cybercriminals

Phishing remains one of the most common threats on the Internet. Fraudsters often impersonate public institutions, courier companies, banks or telecommunications operators. Their goal is to extort login details, which leads to taking over access to bank accounts or other sensitive information.

How to recognize phishing?

  • Language errors in messages.

  • Suspicious links leading to websites with unusual addresses.

  • Unexpected requests to activate or verify your account.

Be careful and follow the warnings published by CERT Orange Polska. Staying informed about the latest threats can help you avoid pitfalls and protect your data from theft.
