Belka tax for liquidation? Petru wants changes

Tax on capital gains, commonly called Belka tax, is currently 19% and includes income from bank deposits, bonds and investments. In 2023, he brought about PLN 9 billion to the state budget. According to Polish MP Ryszard Petru, this tax should be completely abolished because it discourages saving and inhibits investments.

During a conversation in the broadcast “Guest of Radio Zet”Petru described Belka’s tax as “Punishment for saving” And he emphasized that savings are crucial for the economy. In his opinion, the government should support citizens in postponing money, and not impose additional tax burdens on them. He believes that tax liquidation could lead more people to long -term saving, which could have a positive impact on the development of investments in Poland.

Will Belka’s tax be lifted?

The debate on changes in capital profits is ongoing, but the government has not yet made final decisions. Various solutions are analyzed, including introduction of a tax -free amount for small savings or tax exemption long -term bank deposits. At the moment, however, there are no specific declarations regarding the total abolition of tax.

Marek Belka: “I don’t see obstacles to liquidation”

In the same broadcast on Radio ZET, its creator – former prime minister and economist Marek Belka – referred to the tax lifting tax proposal. Stated that if there is a lot of social and political pressure, then The government may decide on its liquidation.

– If there is a political and social need, then let’s eliminate Belka commented.

The economist pointed out, however, that the government should carefully analyze the consequences of such a decision, because Belka’s tax revenues are an important part of budget revenues.

What can the changes be?

Although the government has not yet announced a specific position on the liquidation of tax, various modifications are being considered. The proposals appear:

• introduction tax -free amountswhich would mean that people with little savings would not be charged with tax,

• exemption from taxation of long -term depositsto encourage Poles to keep funds in banks for a long time,

• gradual Reduction of the tax rateinstead of complete liquidation.

It is not yet known when any changes could come into force. The government currently analyzes their effects and has not yet made final decisions.

Will Belka’s tax be lifted? Divided experts

Expert sentences regarding Belka’s tax are divided. Proponents of its liquidation argue that the current regulations discourage saving and investingwhich may have negative effects on the economy. In turn, opponents believe that the total abolition of tax would lead to the loss of billions of zlotys revenues to the state budget, which could force increases in other public tributes.

It is not yet known whether the government will decide to change, but the growing pressure from politicians and citizens can accelerate the decision. More details about possible reforms are to appear in the coming months.
