Poland is struggling with record floods. Heavy rainfall and rising water levels in rivers have led to serious destruction and threats to residents of many regions. In response to the crisis, the authorities have implemented countermeasures. One of them is the use of modern Bayraktar drones.

During Wednesday’s meeting of the crisis management team in Wrocław, Gen. Marek Sokołowski reported that Bayraktar drones are monitoring the situation in the flooded areas. The Turkish devices operate for 12 hours, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

There are also 19 helicopters available in this area. Gen. Sokołowski added that the army is also conducting engineering work, during which it is assessing the effects of flooding and the possibilities of support in Kłodzko, Stronie, Lądek and Głuchołazy.

– All tasks are being carried out on an ongoing basis – said General Marek Sokołowski, assuring that military operations are not in opposition to operations on the Polish-Belarusian border or combat shifts conducted in the country. – All of this is coordinated, there are no negative events – he explained.

WOT seals the embankments and distributes reinforcements

According to General Krzysztof Stańczyk, who commands the Territorial Defense Forces, the army took part in an “unplanned task” in Oława. Around midnight, there was a leak from the embankment.

There are 120 soldiers on site. The leak site has been sealed with geotextile and sandbags. Gen. Stańczyk also recalled that on Tuesday at 8 p.m. the army finished strengthening the embankments in Mietków and Wawrzeńczyce.

– Today we are planning 1,800 soldiers to carry out tasks in Kłodzko, Stronie, Lewin Brzeski and Lądek Zdrój – said Gen. Stańczyk, adding that the army is also providing meals there.

The army is also working in Szprotawa and Żagań, which were also flooded. On Wednesday morning, water rushed into Żagań (Lubuskie Province).

– The Żagań Bridge on the Bóbr River has been closed – the mayor of Żagań, Sławomir Kowal, reported on Polsat News. A forced evacuation of residents was ordered there.
