Bartosz Kurek was a big disappointment. Hard landing for the national team captain

Bartosz Kurek

The return round of the PlusLiga regular phase has officially started. In the hit match, ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle clearly lost 0:3 to PGE Projekt Warszawa.

Before the match, the hosts were eager for a revenge against the bronze medalists from the previous season. ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle, already with Bartosz Kurek in the squad, wanted to erase bad memories from the opening of the league campaign. Let us remind you that PGE Projekt Warszawa won the first battle very decisively, in three sets.

PlusLiga: Bartosz Kurek disappointed in the hit against PGE Projekt Warszawa

However, as it turned out, just like in the first match, also in the second one – ZAKSA did not manage to win even a game. This is a strong disappointment, especially considering that the Kędzierzyn team could have actually looked for different solutions to change the fate of the match. But coach Andrea Giani and his players were unable to find a solution against their opponents, invariably led by Piotr Graban.

PGE Projekt won very confidently 3:0 in Kędzierzyn-Koźle, in sets 25:20, 25:19 and 25:21. This only further shows what was the difference between the two teams on Thursday late afternoon.

Kurek had a disappointing performance. His only four points throughout the entire match are definitely not what could be expected from the ZAKSA captain. The experienced volleyball player, who also has the captain’s “bar” under his national team number, played in attack with an effectiveness of 25 percent, on sixteen attempts. His substitute, Mateusz Rećko, performed better. As soon as he got the opportunity to take the field, he recorded a total of 50 percent in eight attacks. effectiveness, finishing the match with five points. This shows the scale of sportsmanship on this particular day, on the part of the above-mentioned ZAKSA attacking duo.

On the hosts’ side, Igor Grobelny once again performed well. The former PGE Projekt volleyball player was again the team leader, which we mentioned when selecting this player for our team of the best at the halfway point of the regular phase.

On the Warsaw side, two driving forces: Bartłomiej Bołądź and Artur Szalpuk. The latter was awarded the MVP of the match, scoring 13 points. Bołądź added an extra point, but he did not have any responsibilities, like “Szalupa” in the party element. It is worth emphasizing that, apart from their effectiveness, the Warsaw team impressed with their preparation for the match. The fact that Kurek played with such effectiveness was largely due to adequate preparation for ZAKSA’s offensive solutions. And here’s another applause for the work in defense and security for the team from the capital.

Thanks to the victory, the Warsaw team strengthened their position as the runner-up in the table. ZAKSA, however, did not manage to reach the top three and is in fifth place.
