Two large banks have announced a restriction of business in Poland. Reductions will cover a total of about three thousand people. When and who will affect the exemption?

The British Natwest and the Swiss UBS have announced plans for a significant limit on their activities in Poland. Natww will close all its operations by the end of 2025, while UBS will withdraw from the Warsaw branch. As a result of these decisions, about three thousand people may lose their jobs.

Natww ends operations in Poland

According to the official announcement of the Natwest Group, the bank decided to completely withdraw from Poland after the completion of a specific project, in which a significant part of Polish employees was involved.

“The process of closing the activity is to end by the end of 2025. In connection with this decision, about 1,600 people will lose their work,” the Natwest Group said in response to the tvn24.pl editorial office.

The bank ensures that the exemptions were not a hasty decision and that the company will support all employees under the restructuring. Employees of the Polish branch specialize in counteracting money laundering (AML) and data analytics, which – according to the bank – makes them valued experts on the labor market.

The information provided by the Reuters agency shows that more than half of the liquidated positions will be restored in Natwest branches in Great Britain and India.

UBS closes the office in Warsaw

The Swiss UBS also announced the exemptions. According to “Wyborcza”, the bank plans to gradually close the Warsaw branch of Atrium II in 2025-2026. This process will take place gradually and will reduce about 7 percent. employment annually, which means loss of work for nearly 1,200 people.

In the official statement, UBS emphasized that, despite the decision to close the office in Warsaw, the bank remains involved in activities on the Polish market. “Our strategic centers in Krakow and Wrocław will still be crucial for the company,” – they were transferred in a communiqué.

The decision to liquidate the Warsaw branch is in line with the bank’s long -term strategy, which aims to optimize employment and concentrate resources in strategic areas of activity.

Currently, UBS employs about 8,700 people in Poland, and its offices operate in Warsaw, Krakow and Wrocław.
