Bad news for tourists. These bathing areas in Pomerania are not allowed
Several dozen bathing areas in Pomerania were closed due to cyanobacteria blooms or detection of E. coli bacteria. On Friday, the list was supplemented with more places.
The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate has announced that it is temporarily not possible to enter the water at the Gdańsk Brzeźno Spa House (water area: Gdańsk Bay, organizer: Gdańsk Sports Center, supervising station: District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Gdańsk), due to a cyanobacterial bloom. A red flag has been hung there, meaning that “bathing is prohibited.”
An identical situation occurred at the bathing area of Hallera Gdańsk Brzeźno (water area – Gdańsk Bay, organizer – GOS, station – PSSE in Gdańsk). Where else?

It is also forbidden to enter the water near Piastowska Gdańsk Jelitkowo (water area – Gdańsk Bay, organizer – GOS, station – PSSE in Gdańsk), as well as in Sopot, in the bathing area at the entrance to beach no. 33 (Sopot-32A-33, water area – Baltic Sea, organizer – Municipal Sports and Recreation Center in Sopot, station – PSSE in Sopot). The list also includes Sopot – Łazienki Południowe II (water area – Bay of Gdańsk, organizer: MOSiR in Sopot, station – PSSE in Sopot), as well as the bathing area at the entrance to beach no. 22 (Sopot-K22, water area – Baltic Sea, organizer: MOSiR in Sopot, station – PSSE in Sopot), as well as the one between the 14th and 15th entrance to the beach (Sopot-13-17, water area – Baltic Sea, organizer: MOSiR in Sopot, station – PSSE in Sopot) and in Sopot, Park Północny (at the height of entrance no. 17 to the beach, water area – Baltic Sea, organizer: MOSiR in Sopot, station – PSSE in Sopot). The GIS bathing service also lists Sopot-Kamienny Potok-Koliba (between entrances no. 4 and 8, water area – Gulf of Gdańsk, organizer – MOSiR in Sopot, station – PSSE in Sopot).
Due to the bloom of cyanobacteria, you should also avoid swimming areas in Gdynia – Orłowo, Redłowo, as well as Śródmieście (in all cases it refers to the Bay of Gdańsk water area, the data was entered by the organizer – Gdynia Sports Center, and the supervising station is – PSSE in Gdynia).
Let’s also watch out for the bathing area at Beach A in Łeba (located to the right of the port channel from the “Neptun” hotel), where the water has been marked as “unsuitable for bathing due to microbiological parameters”. Escherichia coli, or E. coli bacteria, was indicated here – information about the test was introduced on July 11. In this case, it concerns the body of water – the Baltic Sea, the organizer – the Łeba Yacht Port and the station – PSSE in Lębork.
Why are cyanobacteria and E.coli dangerous?
Cyanobacteria produce toxins that kill wild and domestic animals. In humans, they can cause a skin rash, and when ingested, diarrhea or vomiting. Joint pain or fever can also occur. These symptoms usually last for several days after the last bath.
E. coli bacteria are a typical component of the physiological bacterial flora of the human large intestine, but when they are found outside it, they can lead to urinary tract infections, food poisoning, or sinusitis or peritonitis.
