The debt of young consumers increased almost four times during the year – according to KRD data. The arrears result, among others from avoiding phone bills and riding “on the gap”.

Young debt is growing. The data of the National Debt Register (KRD) shows that during the year, consumers’ debt aged 18-20 increased almost four times-from 10.4 to 38.8 million PLN. The number of young debtors is also growing – from 8.8 to 19.1 thousand. people.

KRD indicates that there are many reasons for this. It comes, among others about low level of financial education, the impact of advertising and influencers promoting expensive products on social media, willingness to impress peers, and finally lack of imagination with the possible consequences of excessive consumption.

It turns out that in the most difficult situation there are 20-year-olds (10.7 thousand people) who have almost PLN 28 million to donate. Their average debt is 2.6 thousand. zloty.

“They are young people who often come into contact with serious financial obligations for the first time, because they are just starting work or undertake orders. They are distinguished by their lack of experience in using financial products and low awareness of the effects of failure to meet the concluded contracts. – comments Jakub Kostecki, president of the board of Kaczmarski Inkasso.

According to KRD data, the problem with timely settling liabilities is more often the domain of young men. 11.1 thous. of them, and their in total is PLN 23.3 million. Among women it is 8,000, and the total debt reaches PLN 15.5 million.

Young debtors are divided into two extreme groups. One of them is uncertain, lost and stressed by the fact that she has long. The second is the spraying people who think they “know better” and cannot admit their mistake. They usually avoid contact, hide their heads in the sand. But once you can talk to them, it turns out that they are willing to cooperate with the negotiator, fearing the burdensome consequences at the start of adulthood – explains Kostecki, emphasizing that it is important to show empathy in such a situation and adapt the language to the level of knowledge of debtors, without formalisms and moralizing.

Who are guilty of?

It turns out that young people most often overwhelm long for unregulated telephone, internet and television bills – debt to telecommunications operators is PLN 8.8 million. Little less, because PLN 8.6 million is arrears resulting from riding “on gapa” by public transport. Securitization funds and debt collection companies, which have PLN 7.3 million to recover, are third on the creditors list. Long are also high for banks, loan and SKOKs (PLN 5 million), courts (PLN 4.4 million) or property managers (PLN 2.2 million).
