Avalanche of reservations in a Polish health resort. “Free rooms are decreasing every day and every hour”
Poles book hotels and guesthouses for the May weekend. One of the famous health resorts is running out of places.
The weather for the May weekend will be exceptionally good this year. Poles who postponed planning trips until reliable forecasts appeared are now making massive reservations for stays in hotels and guesthouses. Popular among others: Baltic Sea (in Tricity on Saturday, May 2, temperatures will reach up to 24 degrees Celsius). “Most facilities will reach a reservation level of 95 – 100 percent. The number of available rooms is decreasing every day and every hour,” Bartłomiej Barski, president of the management board of the Sopot Tourist Organization, told esopot.pl.
Sopot is the hit of the May weekend
Representatives of the tourism industry did not expect such great interest in this year’s May Day trips. Just a few weeks ago, when everything pointed to winter weather at the end of April and early May, few people decided to book a trip. Everything changed relatively recently, when the first optimistic forecasts appeared, predicting temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius in many places in Poland (also on the Baltic Sea). Customers reacted with impulse. As Bartłomiej Barski, president of SOT, says, an “avalanche of reservations” has started.
According to the latest data from Booking.com, 80 percent of accommodation places in Sopot from April 30 to May 3, 2026 are no longer available. It is worth remembering that many tourists who choose Sopot for a one-day trip will have accommodation in Gdynia or Gdańsk. So popular places may be crowded. Not only hotels but also gastronomy will benefit from the great interest.
Trips are definitely shorter
The only downside of the upcoming May break is its length. Tourists cannot count on a few days of rest (which in previous years, together with additional vacation days, could even be 5 or 6 days) – this year the weekend will be extended only by one day (Friday). This influences the nature of trips, which are quick and spontaneous. “Short stays definitely prevail, in the Thursday-Saturday or Friday-Sunday configuration,” says Bartłomiej Barski. During the May weekend in Sopot, approximately 85 percent of the guests will be Poles.
