Autumn inspections by officials. They will enter your garden

As Wirtualna Polska reminds, from 2022, households with a bio-waste composter can apply to the commune for a partial exemption from municipal waste management fees. The amount of the relief varies depending on the rules established by the local government (most often it is a level of several to several dozen zlotys per month per person).

As the Local Government Portal notes, there are cases where people who declare they have a composter do not actually have one, and the only goal is to reduce the aforementioned fees. That is why municipalities decide to carry out inspections in this area.

Compost bin inspections. When will there be no relief?

Property inspections for the proper use of home composters are carried out pursuant to Article 9u, Section 1 of the Act of 13 September 1996 on maintaining cleanliness and order in municipalities. The aim is to check whether composting of bio-waste is carried out in accordance with the regulations, but also to check whether a home composter exists at all.

The waste collection fee relief ceases to apply if the person being inspected:

• does not have a home composter;

• does not compost bio-waste;

• will prevent a person authorized by the mayor from carrying out an inspection.

The resident is only able to re-apply for an exemption from part of the fee after 6 months have passed from the date on which the decision to lose the relief became final.

Municipalities inform about the dates of inspections on their websites. They take place during office hours. In early September, inspections began in the Kurów commune (Lublin Province) and Jaworze (Silesian Province). Next week (September 17-19), officials will check composters in Grodzisk Wielkopolski, Grąblewo, Kobylniki, Kurów and Słocin, among others.
