Authentic and beautiful. This town in Italy is a must-see
This beautiful town famous for its Baroque temples has retained its authentic character. It is worth visiting them during your trip to Sicily.
Every year, Italians choose beautiful towns that have retained their authentic character in the Borgo dei Borghi television plebiscite. In 2025, a town in Sicily was recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in the country.
The most beautiful place in Italy
Militello Val di Catania is a town that was rebuilt after the earthquake in 1693. Also included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, alongside seven other late Baroque towns, Val di Noto. The historic center is a center of art and beauty with over twenty churches and noble palaces. Among them are the Abbey of San Benedetto, the third largest Benedictine monastery in Sicily, and the church of Santa Maria la Vetere (1090), located in a valley of archaeological importance.
The town is surrounded by lush nature. The Ossena River flows nearby and its attraction is the beautiful Cascate dell’Ossena waterfalls.
Traditional delicacies in Sicily
A trip to Italy is not complete without sampling the local delicacies. In Militello it is worth tasting, among others: with cassatelline della zia monaca, i.e. Sicilian cookies with marzipan, cactus figs or scacciate di verdure selvatiche – a type of salty cake layered with herbs and vegetables. The taste and color of Sicily are also intense red oranges.
Tourists delighted with processions in Malta can also join the spectacular holiday celebrations here. The rhythm of life revolves around religion, e.g. Saints’ Day festivals, accompanied by processions, traditional music performances and shared meals. Important feast days are Madonna della Stella on September 8 and Saint Salvatore on August 18.
Borgo dei Borghi is a television program aimed at promoting historic Italian villages for people who value an authentic experience. Each year, one village from each region is presented and the audience, together with a jury of experts, chooses the winner in the final, traditionally broadcast on Easter Sunday.
