User data was leaked from the Booking.com platform. The problem also affects some Polish users of the platform, as confirmed by CERT Polska.

Some users’ data was leaked from the Booking.com platform. The information has already been confirmed by the website’s press office. This includes contact information such as email addresses and telephone numbers, as well as details of reservations made via the platform.

Hackers attacked Booking.com. What data was leaked

The Guardian reports that the dangerous leak occurred as a result of a hacker attack. The platform has already started informing affected users by e-mail.

The company ensures that cybercriminals did not gain access to the most sensitive information. Financial data, including payment and credit card information, was not leaked. The residential addresses of platform customers are also to be safe.

As Booking.com emphasizes, the leak mainly concerns earlier reservations. However, the scale of the hacker attack was not disclosed, nor was its exact cause and moment of detection.

CERT Polska: the Booking.com leak also affected users from Poland

CERT Polska took a position on the matter. Although the cybersecurity institution did not receive direct reports from victims, the analysis confirmed that Polish users of the platform were also affected by the hacker attack.

Experts also point out an additional threat. The image of platforms such as Booking.com is often used in phishing campaigns. Cybercriminals can impersonate a website to extort data or money.

This is not the first such case

As “The Guardian” reminds, a similar situation occurred already in 2018. The hackers then took over the employee’s login details and gained access to the information of thousands of users. The case ended with a financial penalty for the company.
