Athletics of the World Championships are just starting. The devastating opinion of the Polish master

Lekkoatletyczna sztafeta Polek

From September 13, i.e. the next Saturday, athletics of the World Cup. The most important event of the year will be a reason for a lot of headache for the Polish national team?

Where does such a conclusion come from? It seems that the basis is to look at the group of favorites in individual competitions, where there is no “certainty” in the ranks of Polish representatives. In total, 62 Polish athletes, exactly 36 women and 26 men will perform in Tokyo at the 2025 World Cup.

Bitter words of Małgorzata Hołub-Kowalik. The party in Tokyo will be sad?

Already during the Olympic Games in Paris, a warning lamp caught fire in the context of athletic achievements of Poland in a collision with global competition. Natalia Kaczmarek (today Bukowiecka) won the only medal, bronze.

Looking at the global letters, only in the 4×400 mix of Miksta, Poland is at the head of the ranking. During the previous athletics of the World Championships, the Polish national team reached a total of two rings, in both cases they were silver. Then Kaczmarek (400 meters run) and Wojciech Nowicki – absent in Tokyo (health problems) in the hammer competition stood on the podium. The event took place then in Budapest.

What does Małgorzata Hołub-Kowal think about the chances of Polish women and Poles? Olympic champion (2021) and runner-up in the world (2019) does not expect a big breakthrough among the white and red athletes and athletes.

– It will be a different championship for us than in recent years. The Olympic Games in Tokyo blurred the image of Polish athletics against the background of the world, now we will enjoy other things than medals (…) we need to aim at final places, especially young athletes. We are in the process of generational change, in addition to experienced players like Paweł Fajdek or Anita Włodarczyk, we have a lot of young people. They are now on the road to enter the highest level at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. They must gain momentum, gain experience. I also did not win a medal at my first world championships, and only at the third, in 2017 in London. And I will say immediately that I fiercely fight the term that tourists are going to the world championships. Let’s agree that if only the favorites to the medal went to the party, three people would go. But this is not what sport is. Just because someone does not take a high place does not mean that he is a tourist-admitted Hołub-Kowalik in an interview for WP/SportoweFakty.

In the classification of all time, Poland ranks 10th, with 20 zlotys, 20 silver and 25 bronze discs, in total with 65. In total, the US has 443 (!) Medals, as much as 195 gold, 125 silver and 114 bronze.
