Since 2017, medics have had their own law linking their minimum salary to the increase in the national average from the previous year. Now it’s time for the next professional group.

The Sejm is working on the Higher Education Act, which will change the way scientists are remunerated from 2027. A professor’s salary will no longer be a measure of other remuneration.

How much will assistants earn in 2027? More than now

If there is no opposition in the Sejm, within the next three years the minimum basic salary of scientists is to be equal to the level of the average monthly salary in the corporate sector.

In 2027, the minimum salary for people in the lowest scientific and academic positions will be PLN 7,046.45 gross. This is how assistants at public universities and people in the lowest scientific or research positions in institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, research institutes and entities belonging to the Łukasiewicz Research Network will earn. Ultimately, it will be up to 9,000. PLN per month.

Currently, the minimum monthly basic salary of an assistant at a public university is 50%. the minimum basic salary of a professor. This is only PLN 4,825 gross, or approximately PLN 3,619 net.

Doctoral students will also earn more. Scholarships will go up

The draft bill, which the MPs have already considered, assumes a gradual approach to full salary in enterprises:

• 75 percent base value in 2027,

• 87.5 percent base value in 2028,

• 100 percent base value from 2029.

The salary for 2027 is to be based on data that will be made available only in January 2027. What amounts are we talking about? The average monthly gross salary in the enterprise sector in 2026 was:

• PLN 9,002.27 in January,

• PLN 9,652.19 in March,

• PLN 9,399.89 in June.

In the second quarter of 2026, it was on average PLN 9,395.26 gross. Approximately, it is approximately PLN 6,729-6,734 net (in hand).

The project also assumes an increase in the minimum amount of doctoral scholarships. Before the mid-term evaluation, the scholarship would be 75%. minimum basic salary for the lowest scientific and academic positions, and after the mid-term evaluation – 90%. this salary.
