As beautiful as Como, and closer to Poland. A lake with beaches perfect for summer

Jezioro Bodeńskie

This beautiful lake in three countries is second only to Italian Como in popularity. Here you will find sandy beaches and rent boats.

While tourists dream of traveling to the Italian Lakes Como and Garda, beyond the western border lies another beautiful body of water at the foot of the Alps. This is Lake Constance on the border of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It is the third largest freshwater lake in Central and Western Europe in terms of surface area. This is a popular holiday destination among the inhabitants of these countries.

Lake Constance delights in summer

Its popularity is proven by the number of mentions on social media. Apparently, young tourists who want to brag about their visit to a beautiful place like to stay here. The ranking quoted by schwaebische.de shows that among 30 European lakes, Bodensee was the second lake generating the greatest emotions among users. The number of materials on Instagram with this hashtag has even overtaken the number of posts about Lake Como. On TikTok, Lake Constance generated an impressive 128,100 posts. Third place in the Internet popularity ranking was taken by Lake Maggiore in Italy.

There are dozens of swimming areas around Bodensee. For relaxation, you can choose Friedrichshafen, famous as the cradle of the famous airships – this is where Ferdinand von Zeppelin began working on them. There is a wide sandy beach with many amenities for tourists. Other sandy beaches can be found in the German towns of Hegne, Öhningen and Horn.

Sandy beaches and heated swimming pools

The destination offers many recreational opportunities – from bicycle rides (e.g. from Lindau in Bavaria to Bodman), through renting SUP boards or water bikes. The Travels around Europe blog recommends a bicycle route around the reservoir also for families with children – it is mostly flat, 260 km long and runs independently of the car infrastructure.

A popular attraction in the area is the Aquamarin Wasserburg swimming pool – located on the shores of Lake Constance. Guests use heated swimming pools (28°C) with a nice view of the surrounding area and the mountains.

The name Lake Constance comes from German (Bodensee), and other countries call it Lake Constance, after the city of Konstanz (Lake Constance).
