Aryna Sabalenka’s disaster! Has the Belarusian woman had enough?
Aryna Sabalenka lost to Sara Bejlek in the fourth round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. Thus, the Belarusian may soon lose her lead in the WTA ranking.
There is no doubt that the last weeks, or rather months, have not been positive for Aryna Sabalenka. In terms of sports, the Belarusian is far from her best times.
The leader of the WTA ranking has just said goodbye to the tournament for the third time in a row already at the fourth round. The famous player was not used to such farewells by her fans and tennis experts.
Is there a deeper meaning to Sabalenka’s crisis?
Aryna Sabalenka with a big mistake! Will there be a new leader of the WTA ranking?
Sabalenka certainly did not expect that her Czech opponent would cause her so many problems in the fourth round match in Cincinnati. The Belarusian started with a break (1:0), but Sara Bejlek fought back (2:2). The Czech’s serve was again successfully broken (4:3) and the lower ranked player responded again, what’s more, with a return break (4:4). Finally, there was a tie-break and Sabalenka clearly had a 5-1 lead, which the favorite was unable to close, ultimately losing 7-9.
What’s more, in the second set the WTA ranking leader was already leading 4:1. From that moment on, however, the Czech won the next five games and closed the match with a victory in two sets, i.e. 7:6 and 6:4.
How can you explain what happened to the favorite in the match against Bejlek? For a long time, Sabalenka seems to be far from what she showed in her prime. The Belarusian, even having a slightly weaker day, was able to “push through” subsequent victories, showing a lot of quality in decisive moments. Now it is gone, and what’s worse for the athlete herself, in the case of Yelena Rybakina’s two wins in Cincinnati, Kazashka will become the new leader of the world ranking.
Including… Iga Świątek, in the quarterfinals of the event in the USA.
The question is, however, is this really such a big problem for Sabalenka herself? Observing what is happening around the leader of the WTA ranking, one can have justified doubts. Tennis took a backseat, at least theoretically.
However, Sabalenka has the right to arrange her life the way she wants. Especially since we are still talking about the best tennis player of recent years. The Belarusian’s crisis is visible, and it is no coincidence that she said goodbye to tournaments in Cincinnati (WTA 1000), Toronto (WTA 1000) and Wimbledon – at the fourth round stage.
Moreover, after triumphing in the famous Sunshine Double, Sabalenka did not triumph in any of the seven tournaments in which she participated. Therefore, it is difficult not to write and talk about the really serious sports turning point that the tennis player finds herself at.
