Although the situation after the disastrous flood in Spain is not conducive to travel, flights from Poland to Valencia and Malaga are operating as planned. This is worth keeping in mind if we do not plan to cancel trips.

Spain is slowly recovering from the floods that hit several autonomous communities last week, including Valencia and Andalusia. The first one suffered more serious damage. For several days now, volunteers have been arriving in the province of Valencia to help residents clean up the streets, basements and ground floors of houses from the mud and objects carried away by the water.

Tourists who have previously bought tickets to Valencia and Malaga may hesitate whether it is worth getting on a plane, although flights from Poland to these cities have not been canceled.

Traveling to Valencia right after the flood. “Unplanned Challenges”

Guidelines for travel to Spain have been published by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry reminded that the local authorities are currently continuing rescue operations in the vicinity of these cities. The search for missing people and the identification of flood victims are ongoingand.

“If you decide to travel to Spain, remember that the trip may involve unplanned challenges,” reminds the Polish ministry. Local authorities appealed to refrain from any road trips in the provinces of Valencia and the bordering city of Castellón.

What is it like in Valencia itself, the capital of the province of the same name?

As Michał Marczyk, a licensed guide, tells “Wprost”, life in the city goes on, despite the tragedy that took place a few kilometers away.

– Tourists fly to Valencia every day and no one has canceled their trip booked with me. Today, only the group from Alicante could not get to the city due to road difficulties. The city is functioning, there are restaurants and even pubs with music. The services only appeal to people not to move unnecessarily for two or three days so that they can clean the access roads as much as possible. The city’s southern bypass is now available and the roads leading to the airport are operational. Today I reached it with my group of tourists in 20 minutes – says the guide.

The metro in Valencia will not run for a few more days and traffic will be restored in stages.

If Poles decide to fly to Valencia, they should follow notifications about existing threats in the GVA 112 Avisos application. It provides information on meteorological threats in the territory of this Community.

Malaga suffered only minor damage

In Malaga, too, the situation is under control.

“Malaga as a city suffered virtually no damage. Locally, there were floods in basements in adjacent towns, but this does not affect tourism in the city,” said Marcin Chudy, a licensed guide in Malaga, to the naTemat.pl portal.

The decision to travel as a tourist to regions that suffered from flooding should therefore be made according to your own feeling.

The latest estimates put the death toll at 214 in the disaster that hit Spain last week. The country’s inhabitants have not experienced such a disaster since 1996. Then, 87 people died and 180 were injured as a result of a flash flood that occurred near the town of Biescas in the Pyrenees.
