Apple punished by Russia. The iPhone wallpaper caused a scandal

The court in Moscow imposed a fine of 7.5 million rubles, or approx. 93.5 thousand. dollars. The penalty was imposed in three cases of violation of Russian provisions regarding the so -called “LGBT propaganda”. As reported by the Moscow office of the Moscow court, Apple Distribution International Ltd. was responsible, which was to be committed by three administrative offenses. For each of them the company was fined with a fine of 2.5 million rubles.

The Apple representative submitted an application for a hearing behind closed doors, which means that the details of individual allegations have not been disclosed in public. It is known, however, that the proceedings were pending in the context of the recipes tightened in 2023 in Russia, which prohibit the promotion of “unconventional sexual relationships”. The new regulations are part of the wider actions of the Russian authorities against LGBT people.

According to Russian and international media relations, the IOS 18 system could be updated behind the initiation of the case, in which the wallpaper in the colors of the rainbow was made available. It was associated with the celebration of the month of pride and was symbolic, referring to diversity and inclusiveness. However, the Russian regulator Roskomnadzor found this as a manifestation of the so -called “LGBT propaganda”.

Repression in Russia

Reuters reminds that Russia has formally classified the “international LGBT movement” as an extremist organization. People associated with movement or supporting its actions are considered a threat to the state, which opens the way to repression and criminal proceedings.

Apple has not yet commented on the matter. In the past, the company was known for promoting values ​​such as diversity and openness. Interestingly, in 1977 her first logo contained the colors of the rainbow.
