The City Council of Malaga intends to say goodbye to horse carriages for tourists this year. In the summer, temperatures in this city reach up to 45 degrees Celsius.

Animal friends have fought for this change for years. When there are a lot of in Poland about whether horses should take tourists to Morskie Oko and in the markets of old cities, Spanish, loved by Poles, gives up this form of transport step by step.

No more horse carriages in Malaga

Already this year, horse carriages can disappear from Malagi streets, a popular tourist city in Andalusia. The change was already talked about in 2015, when the city authorities announced that they were going to prohibit horse carriages on the streets of the city until 2035. However, they want to move the prohibition for this year. Currently, officials are negotiating with the owners of the last 25 licenses for horse transport (these are valid for 11 years).

Councilor Malaga for mobility, Maria Trinidad Hernandez noticed that not only the well -being of horses is an argument. Urbanization is progressing, and animals have fewer and fewer places where they can move.

Heat and cobbled streets burdensome for animals

Horse carriages can still be seen as part of the celebrations and customs, such as the annual fair in Malaga in August. Tourists, however, will no longer use carriages for which you pay for a taxi.

This is of great importance for the well -being of animals. The PETA organization alarmed that animals pulling heavy carriages suffer from heat and dehydration. In 2023, the world media reported about the death of a horse in Seville, which fell after pulling the carriage at a temperature of reaching 36 degrees Celsius. Passers -by tried to save the animal, giving him water. It turned out that the mare had a fever associated with the disease, and the heat tightened the condition of the animal.

Before the legislative changes come into force, tourists themselves can terminate the popularity of this service in the easiest way possible – not get into the carriage.

Earlier, de Mallorca, this type of horse carriages, gave up.
