An urgent message on the match of Igi Świątek. “To ensure safety”

Iga Świątek

Iga Świątek will not play his match with Diana Sznajder on Monday. The final decision has just been made on the tournament in Madrid.

We would like to remind you that during the first Monday matches (i.e. April 28), the morning session, there was a gigantic failure. Due to the lack of electricity both at the facility of the ATP and WTA 1000 tournaments in Madrid, and as it turned out later – a huge problem in many cities of Spain – there could be only one decision.

After a few hours of expectations and work undertaken – you could only move your arms, in the face of such serious problems.

“For reasons beyond the control of the organization and to ensure security, the national power outage in Spain forced the dismissal of both daily and evening sessions Mutua Madrid Open,” we read in a message, which was published in social media by the organizers of the tournament.

Iga Świątek was to play her match on Monday. The runner -up of the world ranking at 13:00 should start the match with Russian Diana Sznajder. Polish fans may therefore expect that the meeting will take place, but on Tuesday. Of course, as long as the situation related to the failure is controlled. In Spain, there was a giant Blackout.

Blackout in Spain! Iga Świątek will not play a match in Madrid

It is worth recalling that the best Polish singly defends the title won a year ago on Madrid’s flour. In the capital of Spain, Świątek feels very good. Unfortunately, he can’t say the same about his Hubert Hurkacz this year. Wrocław returned to the court after a 1.5 month break caused by an injury. However, the Pole already lost in the first meeting.

Two Polish singles, Magda Linette (in the first meeting) and Magdalena Fręch, also said goodbye to the tournament in Madrid. However, Łódź can note one win on her account. Mirrri Andrejew, an extremely talented Russian woman, turned out to be stronger. Kamil Majchrzak also lost his first meeting during this year’s struggle.

As you can see, Świątek will defend the honor of Polish tennis, looking at a slightly wider context. Not for the first time and … probably not the last.

UPDATE: The match of Świątek – Sznajder will start on Tuesday at 11:00.

The organizers gave a full set of games, regardless of at what stage there are progress of work in restoring energy normality in Madrid, Spain, and as it turned out – the entire Iberian Peninsula – because the problems also affected Portugal.
