A well-known carrier will repaint all its planes. It’s not about refreshing your image. This is a new way to save.

Low-cost airlines will do a lot to save you money. Unfortunately, some of the expenses must be borne by the passengers themselves. A popular practice is, for example, selling optional amenities or charging high additional fees for excess baggage. An important element in striving for the highest possible profits is cutting operating costs. One of the latest ideas of the popular carrier easyJet is to repaint its planes. By using a special method of covering the hulls with paint, the machines will be lighter, which will translate into lower fuel costs.

Lighter planes mean lower expenses

Up to 27 kilograms – that’s how much lighter an easyJet plane painted with a new way of applying paint will be. In the case of the Airbus A320 used by the carrier, with a take-off weight of 77 tons, this may not seem like much. This change, which may seem small at first glance, will, however, contribute to saving up to 1,296 tons of fuel per year once the solution is implemented in the entire fleet of over 200 aircraft. The airline assumes that it will be able to achieve this by 2030. “The method, developed in cooperation with the international company Mankiewicz Aviation Coatings, has so far been used on 38 easyJet aircraft,” writes The Independent.

The environment will also benefit

The carrier’s distinctive orange and white aircraft, painted with a new method requiring fewer layers, will generate new savings. But according to easyJet, it’s not just about money. Less combustion also means reduced carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. Such actions are in line with the growing need to pursue sustainable development. In recent years, airlines across Europe have committed to neutralizing their impact on the environment. “In 2022, easyJet has pledged to achieve a 35% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions per passenger kilometer by 2035 compared to 2019 levels,” it said.
