An unusual view of the streets of Poznań. Mysterious white bags and trucks

From 17 to 23 March, seismic research is underway in Poznań to help determine the geothermal potential of the city. In various parts of the capital of Greater Poland you can notice white sacks hiding geofones, and at night unusual trucks send vibrations into the streets.

Seismic research takes place from 17 to 23 March in Poznań. Research conducted by the Danish company Innargi is to determine whether the deposits of geothermal waters could in the future power the heating network in the capital of Greater Poland.

Geofones and Vibrotrucki on the streets of Poznań. We explain what they are for

Special devices are arranged in the housing tests – geofones. They were hidden under white bags with a padded card saying “private property – I have GPS. Please do not move me. This is a geophone. Innargi uses it to study what is under the surface of the earth. This study will help assess the possibilities of using geothermal energy (…)”.

– Everything indicates that there is a lot of it near Poznań – says Aleksander Rosa, a representative of Innargi, a representative of the Poznań Gazeta Wyborcza. – Until now, research has been conducted around Poznań and in the northern part of it. Now we supplement them with the center and south of the city. The route is small, only 60-kilometer. Geophones are set up there. We must have a full picture of what is located near Poznań – explains the company’s representative.

However, that with the help of a geophone network you can examine what is hidden under the surface of the earth, you need to call specific shocks. Special trucks, called Vibrotruck, are used for this.

“The frequency does not affect buildings”

“Trucks will travel from 17 to 23 March on two routes. The first runs through ul. Krzywoustego, Królowej Jadwiga, Matya, Roosevelt and Bukowska, the second along Obornicka, Witosa, Niechowska, Żeromskiego, Przybyszewski, Reymont, Arciszewski, Ściegienny and Głogowska,” reads the website of Poznań. “Cars during the journey will send short -term vibrations deep into the ground. They will then be reflected by the layers underground. All this will be registered by the so -called geofones. These are small measuring devices of the size and color of the lemon. They will be placed in the ground along the routes of conducted tests. The data obtained in this way is then used to create a geological map of the substrate” – Officials.

Officials ensure that seismic research is completely safe for both residents and the surroundings. “The frequency of short -term vibrations is low and does not affect buildings. The study itself will be supervised and strictly monitored by a team of professionals,” we read. “People living near planned routes will be able to hear vehicles and feel short-term vibrations lasting a maximum of 20 seconds. After about 10-20 minutes the convoy will pass and everything will return to normal,” added.

The vehicles are to drive through Poznań between 21:00 and 7:00 – that is, outside the communication peak hours and at night – to minimize traffic interference. “The trucks will be marked with the Innargi logo, and seismic research will be conducted by a Polish experienced subcontractor: Geophysics Toruń” – inform officials.
