In some places, the holiday season is at its best. This applies to Florida. Unfortunately, some sunbathers must forget about rest on the beaches. The cause is a serious problem.

The place in question is, of course, one of the most popular and hottest states in the USA. Even if Poles do not go too crowded, many dream of such a stay and using local beaches. If you thought about it, it is better to abstain with a decision and approach the matter with caution. It turns out that in some cases it may be more pleasant to relax on the Baltic Sea. The point is that currently more and more southern beaches of southern Florida are covered with rotten algae. Tourists and local are disturbed not only by the appearance, but above all the smell.

Problematic algae on the beaches

It all started in March. Algae appeared gradually, until they got extremely many. Local media reports that now we are talking about struggle masses that stink and make the local life more difficult. “When they reach here, they are rotten, so the smell is really terrible,” described one of the tourists in an interview with CBS News. She added that algae attracts a lot of sea animals, which significantly hinders sunbathing.

Problematic algae looks characteristic. They have a brown color and are slippery to the touch. They usually go to the USA from the Sargass Sea every spring. For sunbathers in Florida, they mean forced resignation from rest in a given place. Their presence also scares off tourists who came or are going to come there.

It is worth noting that this is just the beginning of the holiday season, and it is already unpleasant. Expert research shows that this year it will be particularly difficult in Florida.

Season full of challenges

It seems that sunbathers from Florida will have to be patient. The oceanologist from the University of South Florida, Chuanmin Hu, announced that this year the influx of algae is particularly large, so the situation is more difficult than usual. “The rotten stress, like all rotting plants, will attract insects and constitute a habitat for bacteria,” he explained. He added that water quality would also deteriorate.

In his opinion, by the end of April this year, an unprecedented number of struggle appeared on the beaches of Florida. Forecasts show that in the near future we can find 40 percent more seaweed than in the previous season.

This problem is burdensome not only for rest, but also for the authorities. The cost of cleansing beaches of algae is very high – in 2022 it cost many millions of dollars.
