An island with the most beautiful beach in the world. Poles rank high among tourists

Plaża Cala Goloritzé na Sardynii

This beautiful European island has recorded a significant increase in Polish arrivals. Tourists will find more than just beaches here.

This Italian island attracts more and more foreign tourists every year. Poles, who are an increasingly important force, especially like it. However, there are still many places that are almost deserted and ready to welcome new guests. – We don’t want Sardinia to be associated only with the sea, so we try to offer other experiences as well, says Carla Medau, Head of Cabinet at the Regional Department of Tourism.

Sardinia attracts foreign tourists

Sardinia is still mainly visited by Italians, but this is slowly changing. Investing in new air connections and diversifying the tourist offer means that citizens of other European countries, including Poles, are also becoming interested in the second largest island in the Mediterranean.

– Over the last year, we have recorded an increase in arrivals by 34 percent. Compared to other regions, these results are significant, but still not entirely satisfactory – said Carla Medau during the Buy Italy presentation in Warsaw. The share of Poles in arrivals increased spectacularly – by over 82 percent in just two years.

These airports are chosen by Poles

Poles still most often choose the airport located in the capital of the island, Cagliari. However, Olbia has recorded the largest increase in arrivals in recent years – more than doubling from 2023. Alghero is still the least frequently chosen airport, but this may soon change due to recently announced connections.

The continent in a nutshell

Sardinia is worth visiting not only for its beautiful beaches, although it is here that are rated as the most beautiful in the world, among others located on the Gulf of Orosei, the spectacular Cala Goloritzé. This Italian island wants to be like a continent in a nutshell, where in just a few hours a tourist can take advantage of many different attractions – relaxation by the sea, mountain trips or culinary experiences. The latter are particularly important because, according to the latest Italian gastronomic report for 2025, Sardinia is in the top three destinations for foreign tourists in terms of the number and quality of gastronomic routes. “We also invest in tourist and pilgrimage routes. We also focus on organizing large events, primarily sports and musical,” says Medau.

Pearls scattered throughout the territory

One of the most interesting ideas to attract tourists is to invest in the renovation of small and often neglected towns. The Borghi are scattered throughout the island, not only on the coast, which allows for the spread of tourist traffic. Visiting such places also fits perfectly into the trend of slow tourism focusing on experiences. The Region of Sardinia also intends to allocate significant expenditure to the protection of artistic crafts on the island.
