An important change for Iga Świątek. Fans should pay attention to this!
Iga Świątek is one step away from advancing to the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome. The Pole has not yet placed in the top four of any competition in the 2026 season.
This is quite unusual, considering that Iga Świątek, at her best, was used to winning series, not to mention winning tournaments. However, the current reality looks different, but it is clear that the Polish tennis player has chosen the right direction.
Perhaps the change of coach was actually good for the Polish player.
WTA 1000 Rome: Iga Świątek is fighting for big success. Here’s a change in her game!
After an unsuccessful performance in Madrid (the Pole skipped), now coach Francisco Roig can look at his player’s matches with satisfaction. Maybe not because of his own health, because the Spaniard has a leg in plaster (he ruptured his Achilles tendons in Rome), but because of Świątek’s game.
Observers and tennis experts also notice the change. So what has changed in the context of the Polish woman’s performances on the court?
– It’s about peace. And this may be the missing element. During Wim Fissette’s term, Świątek also showed good play at times, but was unable to maintain it in the long term. It is in this aspect that I see the greatness of Iga in the past – admitted Bartosz Ignacik, a commentator of Canal+ Sport, in an interview with WP/SportoweFakty.
Indeed, even in the match in which the Pole stopped playing well – in the second round against Caty McNally – Świątek was able to return to solid play. This happened after a completely unexpected loss of the set, which is even more noteworthy.
This can also be a positive omen for the future. Indeed, many times in the previous months the Pole was able to count a sudden change in the quality of her game – a definite minus. My own mistakes multiplied, most often due to nervousness. Now the situation looks much better.
The quarter-final match of Iga Świątek and Jessica Pegula is today (Wednesday, May 13), from 1:00 p.m. Broadcasts from the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome can be followed on Canal+ Sport and via the Canal+ Online online platform.
