An extraordinary spectacle will take place over Poland. Then it’s worth looking at the sky
This summer will be full of extraordinary astronomical phenomena. We may observe the first of them in the coming days.
With the arrival of summer, a lot begins to happen in the Polish sky. Some phenomena can be observed in most places in the country, but remember to prepare appropriately.
Unusual astronomical phenomena. Which ones can also be observed in Poland?
From June 22 to July 2, the Bootydes, an extremely unpredictable meteor shower, will appear in the night sky. During their activity, up to 100 shooting stars may appear per hour. The most spectacular phenomena can be observed from June 26 to 27 and from June 27 to 28 – this is when the peak of activity occurs. The maximum of the swarm will occur on June 27 around 5:00.
There will be a solar eclipse on August 12. In Poland, it will be possible to observe part of this phenomenon because its shield will be covered by approximately 85%. Nevertheless, caution should be exercised when observing. Special glasses may be helpful to prevent eye damage. On the same day, you will be able to observe the Perseid meteor shower.
A few days later, on August 28, a partial lunar eclipse is expected. It is also worth paying attention to the full moons, which occur on June 30, July 29 and August 28. The new moon will be visible on July 14, August 12 and September 11.
An extraordinary start to the astronomical summer. “The Day of the Shortest Shadow”
The popularizer of astronomy, Karol Wójcicki, pointed out in his social media that June 21, during the longest day of the year, was also “day of the shortest shadow”.
The solstice fell on that day at 10/24. “Just two hours before our solar noon. This means that when the Sun passes over Poland through its highest point, it is practically exactly at its annual maximum. It is almost impossible to make these shadows shorter” – Wójcicki said on Sunday.
