An appeal from Poland to Greta Thunberg. The action is promoted by PiS and Konfederacja

Greta Thunberg

Residents of the Poczesna commune near Częstochowa are fighting to limit plans to expand the local landfill. They even turned to President Karol Nawrocki and activist Greta Thunberg on this matter.

The authorities of Częstochowa want to incorporate a part of the Poczesna commune into the city in order to expand the local garbage dump. Residents of nearby towns are protesting and trying to publicize the matter as much as possible. They even addressed Greta Thunberg, signing as “children from Poland, from small towns near Częstochowa.”

An organization from Częstochowa writes to Greta Thunberg

“Dear Greta! (…) We are begging you for help because we have no one to turn to,” we read. The EKO Poczesna Association informed that it had also sent the petition to President Nawrocki, the Ombudsman for Children, representatives of the media and ecological organizations. However, the content of the letter published on social media is addressed directly to the Swedish activist.

“We heard that you help the wronged and fight for the purity of our Earth, that’s why we are writing to you,” explain the authors of the letter. Then, sounding a bit artificial for children, they explain to the activist the details of the political dispute over the landfill in Sobuczyna. They argue that Częstochowa wants to annex the town “as a punishment” for protesting against the expansion of the facility.

“Our parents are crying because they cannot keep us safe and they say that now their children – that is, we – are dying from the poisons that scientists have detected in the ground around the garbage dump,” we read further. “It is becoming more and more difficult for us to live because almost every day there is a terrible smell from this landfill and we cannot have fun outside the house,” the authors of the letter continue to argue.

If you’re scared, go to Greta?

“Dear Greta, we also want to live like other happy children in the world, we do not want to get sick and hide from the stench in our homes. Therefore, our last hope is in you, that you will not refuse to help us. Please help us and our parents live in a clean environment,” they appeal.

“Gazeta Wyborcza” drew attention to the fact that in social media Greta Thunberg is identified by municipal councilors from the Nowe Pokolenie PL association, created by members of the Confederation. The letter was also posted online by district councilor from PiS, Maciej Janowski. The portal reminds that right-wing circles – including numerous representatives of both parties – mocked Greta Thunberg the most when she fought for issues that were more general or geographically distant from our country.
