An additional day off in November. See who gets it

As November 1 falls on a Saturday this year, many employees will receive an additional day off in the penultimate month of 2025. A large proportion of employees will enjoy a four-day weekend.

All Saints’ Day is fast approaching. This year, November 1 falls on a Saturday. Chief Labor Inspector Marcin Stanecki reminds that employees for whom Saturday is a day off must be given an additional day off.” Stanecki points out that it is the employer who decides when to grant a day off from work, although he may also consent to the employee’s request to choose a day off.

An additional day off should be designated by the employer in the same settlement period in which the holiday occurred. – For most employees, this means that time off will have to take place in November – neither earlier nor later. Only when the company has a settlement period other than one month, for example three months or even twelve months, can the holiday take place in a month other than November – explains Stanecki, quoted by the RMF FM radio website.

Omitting the obligation to designate a day off for a holiday falling on a Saturday is a serious violation of working time regulations. Pursuant to Art. 281 § 1 of the Labor Code “An employer who violates the provisions on working time is subject to a fine ranging from PLN 1,000 to PLN 30,000.” Violations of this type are monitored by the National Labor Inspectorate.

Days off in November. Who is a four-day weekend for?

In the case of public administration employees, the decision on the date of an additional day off is made by the Prime Minister. In 2025, by order of the Prime Minister, November 10 was designated a day off from work for members of the civil service corps. Thus, state administration employees will be able to enjoy a four-day weekend – from Saturday, November 8, until Tuesday, November 11, when the National Independence Day falls.

Employees employed under an employment contract in other sectors can also count on an additional day off. Many employers – both in the public and private sectors – decide to designate November 10 as a day off. However, people working under mandate contracts, contracts for specific work and B2B contracts, as well as employees working in shifts or equivalent, for whom Saturday is a standard working day, cannot count on a day off on November 1.
